Watercolor

I love working in watercolor but it is easy to overwork a piece so it is a medium to be enjoyed when not in a rush! Most of my originals are small in scale no larger than 9" x 12". Created on quality watercolor paper the colors are built up carefully in layers to create richness, transparency and depth. It takes time but I feel the end result is quite worth it.

Line Art

Pen and ink or "line art"

is probably my favorite medium. Inspired by woodcuts and etchings in vintage book illustration, I like the contrast of hard black lines on stark white paper. I especially enjoy creating images for others

to color and intentionally design plenty of open areas in the illustrations so others will be inspired to experiment with color.

Lettering

In a world with millions of fonts I find it refreshing whenever I see hand lettering. I enjoy the fluid or scribbly look of cursive writing and the bouncy imperfection of hand-drawn letterforms. Lettering says what it needs to say and then the style helps to convey the mood. Hand-lettering can add a

playfulness and spirit to a word and enhance any kind of message.
