Emerging Artist

Everyone begins as an artist. Whether experiencing texture and color through playing with food or chalking lines and shapes onto a sidewalk, we create, we copy, we expand on what has been done before. When I was a child I attempted to meld my observations of the adult world around me with my magical internal world of talking animals. The character of Leroy the Frog emerged and he became the central figure of a calendar I created illustrating his activities over the course of twelve months. I took in orders from my teachers at the end of the school year then hand-drew every illustrated month for each calendar during my 6th grade summer. At the beginning of school in the fall I filled the orders selling the calendars for two dollars a piece. Let's just say I did not fund my college career with this endeavor but Leroy does continue to make me smile.
